My life’s mantra is the words of Jesus, “I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) It’s the beating of my drum. Everything I eat sleep and think is my question, “Is this an abundant life”?

What does it mean to have an abundant life?

Most people automatically think it’s a financially wealthy life. But it’s so much more than that. It’s a life that’s full. Ultimately, it’s a life full of love, peace, and happiness. It’s a life that you look back on and can smile at a job well done. For each of us, it’s going to look different. No one can tell you what abundant life is supposed to look like And over time your definition will probably change and that’s ok. I’m living proof this is possible in the mess.

Life is a pretty weird thing, isn’t it? You’re born, circle around the sun a few times and then you die. Life’s a big fat mystery. As far as anyone knows, we’ve only got one life, so let’s not waste it. Let’s pursue a better life.

Matt’s affair was a pivotal point in my life. It was the hammer that shattered the prison on misery I was living in.
After experiencing a radical personal transformation I wanted more of it in other areas of my life. I began to pay attention to every moment in my life and when something didn’t feel abundant, I’d pray this prayer, “Jesus, you promised abundant life, but this doesn’t feel like abundance. I don’t receive this into my life?”

Then I would look for a way to change my thoughts or actions that are contributing to not having an abundant life.
Sometimes it’s simply changing my perspective about the situation.

Here’s my challenge for you: at any given moment, ask yourself, “does this feel abundant?” If it’s not, you can use my prayer, “Jesus, you promised an abundant life, but this doesn’t feel like abundance. I don’t receive this in my life.” Then, look for ways to change your thoughts and actions to welcome a more abundant life.

Recap: You were meant to live an abundant life. This is not up for debate. Only you can decide what an abundant life looks for you. Pay attention to when there’s something in your life that doesn’t feel abundant. And then begin to look at how to make it abundant.
